Health Knowledge That Speaks Your Language

Vibrant Health Advocates - Ascent equips minority-ethnic families across Bearsden and East Dunbartonshire with culturally-tailored health information and NHS navigation support — delivered in the languages, settings, and contexts that make real sense of their lives.

For many families who have made Bearsden home, the NHS can feel like a maze — not for lack of intelligence or care, but because health systems carry assumptions about language, cultural reference and prior knowledge that don't always travel. Vibrant Health Advocates - Ascent was built to change that. We bring together community health advocates, trusted local volunteers and professional health educators to deliver accurate, accessible health information directly into the spaces where our communities already gather: community centres, faith halls, kitchen tables and WhatsApp groups. We work in Urdu, Punjabi, Cantonese, Mandarin, Arabic and English, and we take our lead from the communities themselves — because the families we serve have always known what they need; they just needed a partner who would listen.

What We Do

Three ways we close the gap

🌐

Multilingual Health Education

We deliver NHS-accurate health information in the languages our communities actually use at home and with elders. From understanding a GP referral letter to recognising the signs of a stroke, we make clinical knowledge genuinely accessible.

🤝

Community-Led Advocacy

Our trained Community Health Advocates are drawn from the same neighbourhoods they serve — people who carry both cultural fluency and health literacy. They accompany families to appointments, translate not just language but context, and follow up until the need is met.

📋

NHS Navigation Support

Knowing your rights within the NHS — how to register with a GP, request an interpreter, appeal a decision or access mental health support — is half the battle. We run regular drop-in sessions and produce plain-language guides that demystify the system step by step.

Our Community in Action

Health confidence, built together

Every week, across Bearsden and East Dunbartonshire, our advocates and volunteers are in community halls, faith spaces and living rooms — having the conversations that help families feel at home in Scotland's health system.

Our programmes are co-designed with the communities who use them. We do not arrive with ready-made answers. We listen first — because the families we serve have always known what they need.
